In Imposter, everyone gets a secret word and a category except one player. The Imposter gets nothing. No word, no category, no clues. Citizens hint at the word without saying it. The Imposter has to bluff from scratch. Talk, listen, spot the faker, and vote them out before they fool the whole group.

Imposter is a word-based social deduction party game that is simple to understand but impossible to stop playing. At the start of every round, citizens receive two things: a category, like Animals, Food, or Technology, and a secret word from that category, like elephant or pizza. The Imposter receives nothing. No word, no category, no hints. They go in completely blind and have to figure everything out from what other players say.
Here is how it plays out. Citizens know the secret word, so they give hints and make comments that show they know it, without saying the word out loud. The Imposter has no idea what the word is and has to listen carefully to what everyone else says, pick up clues, and pretend they know it too. One slip and they are caught. One clever bluff and they walk away with the points.
After the discussion timer runs out, everyone votes for who they think the Imposter is. If the group correctly votes out the Imposter, the citizens earn points. If the Imposter survives the vote without being caught, they earn points instead. The game runs across multiple rounds, so anyone can come back and win.
What makes Imposter so addictive is how different it feels depending on your role. As a Citizen, you are constantly reading faces, listening for hesitation, and trying to figure out who is faking it. As the Imposter, every word you say is a gamble. You are piecing together clues in real time while trying to sound totally confident about a word you have never seen.
Imposter works perfectly as a party game for friends, a group activity for game nights, or an icebreaker with people you are just getting to know. There is no special knowledge required, no complicated rules to memorise, and the rounds move fast enough to keep everyone fully engaged the whole time.
Whether you end up as a Citizen hunting down the Imposter or the Imposter pulling off the bluff of the night, every round of Imposter creates moments that your group will be talking about long after the game ends.
Create a game and share the code
The host starts an Imposter game and shares the game code. Everyone joins from their own phone, no app download needed.
Everyone gets a role, but not everyone gets the word
Citizens receive a category and a secret word from that category. The Imposter receives nothing at all, no word, no category, no hints. They have to bluff from the very first second.
Talk and drop hints, without saying the word
Citizens describe, hint at, and talk around the secret word to prove they know it. The Imposter listens closely and bluffs, hoping to figure out the word before getting caught.
Vote for who you think the Imposter is
When the timer ends, everyone votes for the player they think is the Imposter. Choose carefully, because voting out an innocent citizen helps the Imposter win.
Points go to whoever wins the round
Citizens earn points for correctly voting out the Imposter. The Imposter earns points for surviving the vote. The player with the most points after all rounds wins.
